With the June 1 deadline now behind them, the 49ers can release Brandon Aiyuk as a post-June 1 cut and spread a roughly $35 million dead money charge across the 2026 and 2027 seasons. ESPN's Jeremy Fowler has called Aiyuk untradeable given his contract and communication breakdown with the team. Every team in the league knows San Francisco may have to release him, so front offices are expected to wait for free agency rather than surrender draft picks.

Brandon Aiyuk posted videos to Instagram on June 7 and 9, 2026, accusing the 49ers of regretting the four-year, $120 million extension they gave him before the 2024 season. He said the team voided his guarantees and that he would be on a new team in the future. The videos continued a bitter public standoff after Aiyuk stopped reporting while rehabbing the torn knee ligaments he suffered in October 2024.

NFL.com's Jeffri Chadiha ranked the 49ers' signing of Mike Evans away from Tampa Bay among the ten best roster moves of the 2026 offseason. Evans arrived with 13,052 career receiving yards and 108 touchdowns, and the deal carried a first-year cap hit of just $4.25 million. Pairing a future Hall of Fame receiver with Kyle Shanahan's offense was seen as the centerpiece of San Francisco's revamped passing game.
